Rehabilitation, Training & Adoption

Dead Broke Horse Rescue is the nonprofit heart of Dead Broke Saddlery. We rescue BLM wild mustangs, surrendered horses, and horses in need, giving them the time, care, and training they need to become safe, confident partners for their future families.

Our goal is simple: turn “wild” into “wonderful” and “unwanted” into “irreplaceable.”

Our Mission

We rehabilitate, saddle-train, and adopt out horses to qualified forever homes.

Every horse in our program receives:

  • Veterinary care, farrier work, and nutritional rehabilitation
  • Gentle, progressive ground work and saddle training using kind, pressure-and-release methods
  • Exposure to trail obstacles, traffic, and real-world scenarios so they become truly “dead broke” — calm, willing, and safe

Why Mustangs & Rescue Horses?

BLM wild mustangs and rescue horses often arrive with incredible athletic ability, strong feet, and big hearts — they just need someone to show them the way. Through patient handling and consistent training, these horses frequently become some of the best trail, family, and even competitive partners available.

How It Works

Rescue – We pull horses from holding facilities, auctions, or owner surrender.
Rehabilitate – Health, weight, and trust are restored first.
Train – Professional, kind training turns nervous or green horses into reliable mounts.
Adopt – We match each horse carefully with approved adopters who can provide a lifetime home.

Adoption Process:

All adopters must complete an application, provide references, and agree to a home check. We offer support after adoption and stay in touch because these horses are family.

Success Stories

Now happy pasture mates with a wonderful family of three children who are now avid riders. Annie and Major are shining examples of the second chances we work so hard to create.

Horses Currently in Training

Two Mustangs adopted from the Wind River Horse Sanctuary in partnership with the BLM in July 2026.

Jasper is a yearling gelding born in BLM captivity at the White Mountain, WY HMA.

Sienna is a 3 year old mare gathered in 2024 from the Sulphur, Utah HMA.

Like all the horses before them, they will receive full rehabilitation, gentle handling, medical care and professional saddle training to prepare them for their forever homes.
