Founded on the belief that every horse deserves quality gear and every rider deserves gear that fits perfectly, we handcraft custom saddles, bridles, breast collars, and full tack sets using the finest American leathers and time-honored techniques.
Our name “Dead Broke” comes from the horseman’s term for a horse that is completely trained, trustworthy, and safe — exactly the kind of horses we strive to produce through our connected rescue efforts. Every saddle we make is designed for real riders doing real work: trail riding, ranch work, competitive events, or simply enjoying the bond with a special horse.
We are horse enthusiasts living the dream in Idaho. After going through a lot of equipment, trying to find the right set up for us and our horses, we thought “it shouldn’t be this hard”, so we are working with manufacturers, designing and selling what works for us.
Our prices on saddles are lower for a few reasons. We do not have a storefront. We aren’t paying rent and transferring those costs to the consumer.Even though our saddles are imported, we control the process. We can monitor the build of each saddle, that doesn’t start until you place your order.
Our saddles feature a tree that is both built in a traditional manner while being state-of-the-art: a traditional rawhide wrapped, solid rosewood tree that is then sealed with our proprietary TreeArmor™️ epoxy resin that forms the saddle’s core foundation.
We also offer our optional UltraLite™️ rosewood core, fiberglass trees for our competition barrel saddles. Both of these trees, built with the highest quality materials, provide a solid base for even weight distribution, rider balance, while allowing for proper shoulder movement in the horse.
